RELAY Information
The Rabbit Run Relay splits the thrilling trail Marathon (approx. 42.2K) course into five legs of varying distance.
The course runs around the private grounds of the Merthyr Mawr Estate, including its hills, valleys, sand dunes, river crossing and the Big Dipper – the biggest sand dune in Wales. Other highlights include the Ogmore River, & Beach, Southerndown, Dunraven Bay and the pretty village of Monknash.
It takes in all that the original 12K Rabbit Run has to offer, running around the private grounds of the Merthyr Mawr Estate, including its hills, valleys, sand dunes, river crossing and the opportunity to tumble down the Big Dipper – the biggest sand dune in Wales.
The course is split into the following legs (teams should register themselves AS Participant 1-5 in the order they wish to run):
o Leg 1 – 11.79km (Start to Stepping Stones)
o Leg 2 – 4.91km (Stepping Stones to West Farm, Southerndown)
o Leg 3 – 9.5km (West Farm to Lamb & Flag, Wick)
o Leg 4 – 9km (Lamb & Flag, Wick to the Fox, St Brides Major)
o Leg 5 – 7km (The Fox, St Brides Major to the Finish)
Whilst signage will direct participants in key locations, there will be an element of self-navigation. Those taking part should take steps to ensure they are familiar with the route, for which a GPX digital download will be available, and carry all the items on the race kit list.
IMPORTANT: Every team member will receive a relay finisher medal, and teams should aim to complete all five legs within the 7‑hour cut‑off. Each team is also responsible for getting their runners to the start and finish points of each leg, all of which are easy to reach by car.
Please note: A large portion of the route is run on the private grounds of the Merthyr Mawr Estate, so it will not be possible to recce the course outside of the official event.
