Route Information
The Rabbit Run Marathon (approx. 42.2K) offers a thrilling trail running experience!
It takes in all that the original 12K Rabbit Run has to offer, running around the private grounds of the Merthyr Mawr Estate, including its hills, valleys, sand dunes, river crossing and the opportunity to tumble down the Big Dipper – the biggest sand dune in Wales.
Marathon runners will also head out on a tour of the Glamorgan Heritage Coast, which promises dramatic landscapes, plunging cliffs, secluded coves and breathtaking views.
They’ll get to enjoy some of the highlights in the area including the Ogmore River, Ogmore Beach, Southerndown, Dunraven Bay and the picturesque village of Monknash, before venturing back towards the Merthyr Mawr Estate via the rolling countryside of the Vale of Glamorgan.
Whilst signage will direct participants in key locations, there will be an element of self-navigation. Those taking part should take steps to ensure they are familiar with the route, for which a GPX digital download will be available, and carry all the items on the race kit list.
Runners must attempt to complete the course within our 7 hour cut-off time.
The Marathon replaces the 40K race which took place in 2025 (with a short extension to complete the marathon distance). Timing mats will allow participants to receive a 40K and Marathon finish time, to compare previous performances.
Please note: A large portion of the route is run on the private grounds of the Merthyr Mawr Estate, so it will not be possible to recce the course outside of the official event.
